Recent News
Having just completed a 7 date tour in England, playing each location for the first time, Broken Windows are delighted to have had full audiences and fantastic feedback from both punters and venues. (Eagle Inn Salford, John Peel Centre Suffolk, Chichester Inn, Acorn Penzance, Pound Arts Corsham, Half Moon Putney, Future Yard Wirral) Scottish shows across 2025 included Glasgow, Aberdeen, Falkirk, Edinburgh.
Several blue-roots-alt festivals are planned for early 2026: Orkney Blues, Fynefest, Arran Blues & Rock, and Tynemouth Winter Weekender. Individual shows in 2026 will include South Wales, Merseyside, Cornwall, London, with many more being confirmed for tours soon to be announced.
BBC Radio 2 premiered 'Johnny Knows the Roads (radio edit)' from latest album 'Double Measures', on The Blues Show with Cerys Mathews. Multiple tracks from the record have since been played by Iain Anderson on BBC Radio Scotland, Jazz FM, and numerous regional and local stations. Their Live Launch in Edinburgh (17th October) was a sell out at the Voodoo Rooms. The band toured for 4 shows in The Netherlands (Oct 2024), and are about to release 'Live in The Dams' from shows in Amsterdam and Rotterdam, in Sept 2025.
Corralling some of Scotland's best players, this six-piece have the talent to roam beyond the prescribed pentatonic box ... the title track (to Double Measures) is a winningly wonky gypsy-jazz lurch.

Short Bio
Real songs, original music and unpolished natural energy. A six piece band of eclectic, grounded roots musicians, fronted by an idiosyncratic driving force vocalist and songwriter. Unpinned by genre, they take each song where it needs to go.
Extra copy
Twists of roots, blues and psychedelia, in a vibe that lies firmly with the 60s free spirit of real music. Liz Jones & Broken Windows sound only like themselves, but have been compared to Little Feat, The Faces and Fleetwood Mac, with similarities lying in group connection on stage and a wave goodbye to neat boxes, each tune simply taken on the path it carves. Live shows are a wild mix of personal expression, genre celebration and individual musicianship.

RnR Magazine

Refusing to fit the mould, band of original rootsy creations, Liz Jones & Broken Windows, have made a bold, classic genre blending record with the stubbornness to sound completely them.

Self managed, Broken Windows’ attention has expanded beyond their hometown since the release of their 2021 studio album and packed Ed Fringe and Scottish city gigs through 2022-2023. Linked closely with vocalist and songwriter Liz Jones’ musical journey, the group provide a wonderful home for fans of the more growling bite of Jones’ wild bluesy voice, but ever more so for lovers of good, full fat BAND music. With celebrated musicians and great sonic variety in their tracks, feature soloists on guitar, keyboards and mandolin, including two Blues’N’Trouble members, the Windows attract followers from the blues, folk, rock and songwriter worlds, many coming from UK, Canada, USA, Netherlands and Germany.
Fun words from an audience member:
“When this group of eclectic, casual looking musicians join a stage, you could be forgiven for thinking they’d be there to ‘entertain’, a leg up from some decent gigging bar in their home town. At the end of the gig, you are a fan, wondering why they aren’t widely celebrated in the rockin live music world. There’s so much to love. Vocally, musically, in spirit and in energy, they deliver original songs in a way that make you feel part of the band. You’re accepted because you are in it for the music, for the songs, the smiling, the realness of confused genres, stage wobbles and the shared secret that wild and free music is underground, and it doesn’t care.”
MORE ABOUT THE BAND / MUSICIANS
Vintage axeman and bluesman John Bruce (Original Blues’N’Trouble) co-writes many Windows songs, and continues to take their blues and psychedelic numbers to the extra dimension that a true ‘feel player’ can.
Rhythm from Gary Davidson (Allman’s Project) and Rod Kennard (former Blues’N’Trouble) and percussionist and multi-instrumentalist Suzy Cargill contributing African djembe and mandolin.
Suzy, former Hong Kong sinfonietta percussionist, is a widely celebrated musician across Scotland, with a multi decade spanning performance career, fiercely fighting the challenges of being a physically disabled musician, throughout.
Jamie Hamilton (Allman's Project) on piano and organ bring times of total focus to the keyboards for wild instinctive solos. Jamie is often the great surprise bonus for new fans, as a lesser known and humble player, he then "knocks their socks off".
LIZ JONES / SONGWRITER
Long time songwriter and singer, Liz Jones, moved to Scotland on a whim in 2011. Jones rejected an all consuming career in television production, finding a casual musical home in Scotland as she mixed with the local blues and roots scenes. Coming from London and Cumbria, she began focusing on music after a 5 year period running a cafe in Edinburgh. Support from several 'Broken Windows' members, to make her original songs rise in a band setting, began the full fat group that is now her main project. Jones also tours successfully as a solo artist, across the UK and Netherlands, at heart a storyteller and song-maker, but there is within her a natural tendency to 'rock out' and drive a big stage. Broken Windows brings out another pique of her voice and performance, co-writing and collaboration with John and the band, giving her full scope to embrace the blues, jazz, folk and psychedelic influences.
